Best Tip for Better Focus
The Best Tip for Better Focus
I can give you a ton of advice on lifting weights, hitting drills, outfield drills, and the mental game. That's what I am here for and that's my job description. I'm all about improving and developing as an athlete and as a human being. However, if I can't get you to be present and focus on what you are doing to improve, well really it is a lost cause.
This week I have had a lot on my plate just in terms of training, running my business and managing other obligations. My schedule has been packed. I'm grateful for it, but that doesn't mean the stress didn't take a toll on me. When I decided to take a step back I realized I was overstimulated and decided to take a break from a few things.
1. Social Media Limits. I can't stress this enough. Get off your phone. The added stress from doom scrolling speeds up our brains and gives us the attention span that is less than a squirrel. Read a book instead. Get creative with times that you are bored instead of just sitting on TikTok for hours on end. It's really not doing you any good.
2. TV/Netflix Limits. I used to be someone that had sports tv on all throughout the day while I was trying to get work done. I didn't realize how detrimental it was to me actually getting my work done. I decided to use Headspace's Focus Music instead of the constant noise and I got 4x the amount of work done in a single day just by eliminating that distraction. Now I give myself a little bit of time each night to watch what I want for entertainment, but for the most part have nothing on during the day.
3. More time outside/quiet. I have started a "Morning Mile" with my dog, Nole. Everyday before noon we take a 30min/1mile walk around our neighborhood. It's great recovery for me, gets me in nature, and makes him super happy. It's an awesome way to start my day and prepare me for what's ahead. Science tells us that walking outside is a natural anti-depressant and helps us fight anxiety as well.
Stay focused. Do better.
