The Power of Change
It Can Change at Any Point
Here we are again. For the first time in Athletes Unlimited history, we have repeat captains. All 4 captains, myself included, are back for week 4 and in the same colors! Go Orange. Catch the full tv schedule for this weekend here.
I was talking with some of my teammates about just how crazy this Athletes Unlimited system is. I was named "Mover of the Week" from week 2 to week 3, which means I climbed up the most spots on the leaderboard that week (35 spots). The conclusion of all those conversations I had with my teammates boiled down to was "it really all can change at any point."
I felt like that would be an encouraging word to someone out there that maybe isn't fully confident in their swing, maybe in a slump, maybe a coach on a losing streak. It can change at any point. You can catch fire at any point. So if things aren't going exactly how you would like them to, let that be your mantra. The power of positivity and optimism is real, especially in a game of failure like ours. How can you remain positive? Here are some of my favorite mindsets.
1. "If I keep knocking, the door is eventually going to open." This is adopted from one of my favorite Bible verses (Matthew 7:7-8). Keep knocking. Don't give up, don't give in. That door is going to swing wide open and when it does, you'll appreciate it all the more.
2. "Quality over Quantity." I want to focus on quality at bats and being a quality teammate. I'm not afraid to celebrate others success just because I'm not finding my own, because guess what? Tomorrow I could be the hero. Don't waste time being envious, but spend time genuinely celebrating. Individually, focus on quality at bats (moving runners, drawing walks, seeing a lot of pitches, having great pitch selection, finding barrels, etc.)
3. "The best is yet to come." No matter how good or how bad today is, the best is always in front. This mindset of faith, trust, and optimism keeps a constant voice of perspective present in mind and it gives me hope for a brighter future, no matter the present.
Keep going. It could all change today.
