See a Little, See a Lot
See a Little, See a Lot.
What an awesome couple of weeks it has been for me! After finishing up my season at #3 on the Athletes Unlimited Leaderboard, I got to enjoy some much needed vacation with family and was able to completely unplug. I didn't check social media for over a week and honestly can say it was so refreshing.
Now that I'm back at home, finally, it is around that time to start my offseason training regimen. I often use this time to reflect on the season that was and see how I can improve heading into next year. As I started to go over some of my stats, at bats, and film breakdowns, I was reminded of a quote I once heard from one of my favorite people of all time, Scott Cochran. Coach Cochran was the strength and conditioning coach for Alabama Football at the same time I was playing softball there, and he came and spoke to our team in the middle of fall ball as we were preparing for our spring season. The saying was exactly the kind of mindset we wanted to have towards our preparation and it is the exact advice I'm choosing to follow this offseason as well.
"See a little, see a lot. See a lot, see nothing."
What does that mean? I'm paying attention to detail on a few things. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel and be everything to everyone. I'm going to see a few things, go really deep on those few things, and trust that the intentional work that I put in will pay off. My focus isn't "in 2023 I am winning Athletes Unlimited" or "I'm going to be the best softball player in the world." That's way too big. My focuses are "Let's eat cleaner today" and "let's hit the outside pitch better today." It's narrow. It's laser like. And, slowly but surely, those little wins add up to really big ones down the road.
What's your little thing you are focusing on this offseason? Don't cloud your mind by trying to see everything. See a little and you'll eventually see a lot.--Halo
