IT’S ON PURPOSE
Last week I was on vacation and I have to be honest here: I slacked on my discipline. I didn't journal, didn't workout, and ate like garbage. It was nice, but then I got back this week feeling guilty. I know how good it feels to give my body what it needs - proper nutrition, exercise, and headspace. I desperately needed the unplug, but have to say I enjoy structure much more than I thought. This week made me realize that.
We all have moments where we feel guilty for slacking (or at least we should). Maybe we skipped a rep at the gym, over indulged in foods that aren't fuel, faked sick so we could get out of practice, or skipped class. Or maybe it's something more outside of our control but we are feeling the guilt anyway. Maybe you are injured and feel guilty because you can't help your team (you can help them, by the way). Maybe you feel guilty and lonely because you switched travel ball teams to challenge yourself.
Whatever you feel guilty about or whatever adverse situation you are going through, it only goes to waste if you don't use it. You see, everything has a purpose.
My guilt from lack of structure last week's purpose to teaching me that I really love structure. It is teaching me to enjoy the benefits and freedom that come from routine and discipline. It is teaching me that I actually missed running for miles and miles every day. I missed doing an extra set in the gym just because. It made me realize and think deeply about how beneficial all these things are to me - no matter if I am on vacation or if I'm in full work mode. There's purpose. There's an opportunity to learn.
So maybe your life, school, or softball isn't going exactly how you want it to go right now. You're human. You're normal. There is a purpose in it. You just have to seek it. When you seek it, you'll find it.
Learn. Grow. Adapt.
Do it on purpose.
