HELLO 2024!

It's me, Halo again. I recently took an extended break from this weekly blog because of a reason you may have seen on social media. I took a job in partnership sales with Athletes Unlimited in October and have been diving into all things related to sports business over the last few months. Joining the AU family has been an absolute game-changer, and as I reflect on the amazing journey so far, I can't help but marvel at the positive impact this organization continues to have on women's sports as a whole.

At Athletes Unlimited, we're not just witnessing a shift in the landscape of women's sports – we're actively shaping it for the better. The unique model of our leagues empowers female athletes by putting them in control of their careers, fostering competition, and creating a community that celebrates their excellence. Why am I so excited about my role in partnership sales here? Because it's an opportunity to be part of something utterly transformative. Athletes Unlimited is more than just a sports league; it's a movement, and we're on a mission to elevate women's sports to new heights.

This is probably the biggest news for me coming into 2024, and with taking on this new role, I'm pulling back on a lot of my travel across the country for camps and clinics. However, I'm using this as an opportunity to dive more into local softball organizations in South Florida where I am based. So, for all of my Southeast Florida folks, if you are interested in mini clinics or private softball lessons, let's connect! For those of you not based in Florida, I'm offering zoom consultations and Q&As all spring and summer of 2024. I'm willing to help as many athletes as I possibly can.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM MICHIGAN'S CHAMPIONSHIP RUN

While you're here and on the topic that this blog is all about (you improving as an athlete and a human being), I wanted to share a quick lesson from the Michigan Wolverines football team that I took away from their national championship run: Very few things great things are accomplished without adversity.

Michigan's head coach, Jim Harbaugh, was suspended twice during the regular season. The players could have folded, but instead rallied around their coach. They bent, but never broke. Their star quarterback JJ McCarthy had this to say after the game: "In order to accomplish things like this, you've got to go to those dark places where everything's not great." I absolutely love that perspective and more parents and youth athletes need to have it.

Your journey will not be easy and you shouldn't want it to be. Challenges make the story that much sweeter in the end. So what challenges can we run towards rather than away from in 2024? Remember, chances are, the more difficult something is, the more likely you are on the right track, right where you are supposed to be.
